UI/Interaction Designer

Job Description

Freeverse is looking for a performance-oriented UI/Interaction design intern for the spring semester.

As a UI/Interaction design intern you will work directly with the company's Creative Director, CEO and game producers on various iPhone projects.

You will be expected to deliver clear and well thought out screen layouts/ wireframes for iPhone applications. You will learn how to approach designs conceptually and to think about interaction systems and navigation schemes, not just individual screens.

You will gain practical experience presenting design solutions to project stakeholders within the company. Eventually you may assist in presentations to decision makers at Fortune 500 companies.

This is an unpaid internship which may lead to a paid internship next summer or in a future semester.

Qualifications

Student candidates must submit a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills in UI/UX design, screen layouts and/or wireframes. Examples of button and menu designs would be a BIG plus.

The ideal student will have had coursework/experience in the following areas:

  • User experience principles and UI/interaction design, especially in button and menu design.
  • Design and prototyping software, including standard design software such as Adobe & Macromedia Products, FreeHand or Illustrator, and HTML Editors.
  • iPhone application design
  • Graphic design

iPhone App Developer

Job Description

Freeverse is looking for a performance-oriented iPhone app developer intern for the spring semester.

As an iPhone app developer intern you will work directly with the company's CEO and game producers on various projects.

You will gain practical experience working on iPhone apps with a global reach. Freeverse apps have been prominently featured in official Apple commercials and advertising, New York Times articles, and gaming sites like Joystiq.com and Kotaku.com.

This is an unpaid internship which may lead to a paid internship next summer or in a future semester.

Qualifications

Student candidates must submit samples of work demonstrating their skill in Objective-C and/or C++. A working iPhone application (either in a sandbox development environment or published in the App Store) would be a big plus - as would knowledge of Xcode and Cocoa, and familiarity with designing user interfaces.

If you have skills in C++ but not Objective-C, that's ok. But you should confidently be able to explain the difference between Objective-C and C++.

Marketer/Copywriter

Job Description

Freeverse is looking for a marketing/copywriting intern for the spring semester.

As a marketing/copywriting intern you will work directly with the company's Marketing Director and various producers of iPhone game and app projects.

You will be drafting original press releases, blog entries, and news items for some of Freeverse's most popular products and gain practical experience in crafting marketing campaigns for cutting-edge iPhone applications. In addition, you'll assist the Marketing Director in presentations to internal staff and external partner companies.

Other duties include researching forums, web sites and news locations for viable points of communication and writing emails to users/journalists.

This is an unpaid internship, though some of the perks of working at a video game company include free sodas and snacks, working with great folks in a very hip office near the Brooklyn Bridge, and unlimited access to the pinball machine. Not to mention the practical experience you'll get through exposure to the world of game development.

Qualifications

Student candidates should submit samples that demonstrate their writing skills from current websites, blog entries, forum posts, etc.  Showing coursework/experience in business writing (especially example press releases) is a BIG plus.

The ideal student will have had coursework/experience in the following areas:

  • Proofreading text/communications
  • Marketing/PR
  • Microsoft Office, Mac
  • iPhone, iPod Touch

Candidates must have basic computer gaming knowledge.  They should also have strong organizational skills, the ability to handle delegated tasks, and great attention to detail.

3D Artist/Animator

Job Description

Freeverse is looking for a performance-oriented 3D artist/animator intern for the spring semester.

As a 3D artist/animator intern you will work directly with the company's Creative Director, CEO, 3D artist and game producers on various iPhone projects.

You will be expected to deliver low resolution 3D models, UV'd, textures and some animation on occasion. In return, you will learn how to become proficient in the world of iPhone development and the related ecosystem, plus you will be working with really cool people that talk about games all day long.

This internship will provide you with practical experience creating 3D art/animation for iPhone apps with a global reach. Freeverse apps have been prominently featured in official Apple commercials and advertising, New York Times articles, and gaming sites like Joystiq.com and Kotaku.com.

This is an unpaid internship which may lead to a paid internship next summer or in a future semester.

Qualifications

Student candidates should submit a portfolio of work that demonstrates their skills in 3D art and/or animation. Examples could be in Maya files, textures, rendered stills, animation reels, composites, etc.

We use Maya 2008 and up in the office. Prior exposure to Maya is desirable but not essential if you're fast in another package which handles a flexible format such as FBX.

The ideal student will also have had coursework or experience in the following areas:

  • Photoshop, Illustrator and/or Flash
  • Game design
  • 3D animation, rigging and After Effects are also big pluses
